Know when your diesel is cleaning its particulate filter. The DPF Controller plugs into your car's OBD2 port and shows what the diesel particulate filter (DPF) is doing on a small OLED display. When a regeneration starts, it beeps and shows it on screen. You won't switch the engine off halfway through one again.

Why it matters

Your car burns the soot out of the DPF from time to time by running it very hot. This is called regeneration, and the car doesn't tell you it's happening. If you park and switch off in the middle of one, the soot stays in the filter. Repeated interrupted regenerations, often on short trips, are one of the most common reasons a DPF clogs up and needs an expensive visit to the workshop.

With the DPF Controller you see when a regeneration is running, so you can finish the drive and let it complete.

Exploded view of the DPF Controller OBD2 unit: lid, two circuit boards, OBD2 plug and base

Inside the OBD2 unit: two stacked circuit boards on a standard 16-pin OBD2 plug.

What the display shows

Switch between readouts with the two buttons on top of the display:

  • DPF soot load (%)
  • Temperature before and after the DPF
  • Time and distance since the last regeneration
  • Oil ash in the filter

At the bottom of the screen you always see the battery voltage, a soot-load bar and whether a regeneration is running right now.

Features

  • Audible alert when a regeneration starts and when it ends
  • Clear OLED display, easy to read at a glance
  • Status LEDs on the OBD2 unit
  • Plug and play: no coding, no tools, no cutting wires. Unplug it any time.
  • Read-only: it only reads data from the engine control unit and never changes anything in your car
  • 2 m cable, so you can put the display wherever you see it best

Inside the DPF Controller display: front bezel, OLED board and back cover

The display: an OLED board between a front bezel and a back cover, with two buttons on top.

Compatibility

For Volkswagen Group diesel cars (Audi, Cupra, Seat, Škoda, Volkswagen) with a diesel particulate filter. Not sure about your car? Send us your engine code or VIN before you order, and we'll check it for you.

Installation in a minute

  1. Find the OBD2 port. It's usually under the dashboard, next to the steering column.
  2. Plug in the DPF Controller.
  3. Run the cable to where you want the display and put it in place.
  4. Start the engine. The data appears on the display.
